Dreams are Soaring in Cairo
Shaesta touched down in Cairo, Egypt on June 30 after a 622 nautical mile, four hour and ten minute journey. She had the opportunity to engage with students at the EgyptAir Flight Training Academy, along with female pilots, engineers, and members of the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation at the airport, where she was able to give them a tour of the bonanza. Here’s why Bassem Samy Abdelkarim, Under Secretary of International & Internal Affairs for the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation, supports Dreams Soar:

“We support the growing role for women in aviation and how they contribute to the industry’s continued development, economic growth and sustainability. We aim to raise awareness for greater global access to STEM education.”

Two female air traffic controllers greeted Shaesta on her approach into Cairo.

Tiger Aviation Services Provides Fierce Support

Tiger Aviation Services prides themselves in providing optimal customer service and a high level of security for the aircraft they are responsible for. Not only did they provide aircraft support for the bonanza, but they were key players in the outreach efforts in Cairo. Here’s why they support Dreams Soar:

“We are passionately committed to the mission of supporting women in the aviation industries. That’s why Tiger Aviation chose to handle such a project in Egypt; we want to do what we can for the mission. We want to encourage all young, aspiring women to enter the STEM and aviation fields. Since Tiger Aviation Services is based in Egypt, it is by all means our duty to convey the message to empower and encourage Egyptian women and women around the world to follow their dreams and ambitions.”

Thank you Tiger Aviation Services for making dreams soar!

Women on the Weather
How do we track ever-changing weather patterns across our global flight route? With the help of other powerful women of course! Thanks to Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc., a group of female meteorologists are providing aviation weather support for the remainder of Shaesta’s flight route. Universal Weather and Aviation supports a strong social responsibility for ensuring the successful continuity of the aviation industry. Here’s why Universal Weather and Aviation supports Dreams Soar:

“We are extremely proud to support Dreams Soar and want to help Shaesta accomplish her goal of flying around the world and spreading the mission of introducing more women to STEM and aviation.”

Surprise in Dubai
What was planned as a “media day” provided a special surprise for Shaesta in Dubai at a high-level outreach event along the global flight route. Dreams Soar’s board chairwoman, Lyndse Costabile and Women in STEM/Outreach Coordinator, Jill Meyers, had the support of HADID International Services to travel out to the UAE and surprise Shaesta! The look on her face this morning was priceless, emotional, and inspiring.

Both women, with Shaesta, will support corporate meetings and outreach work in the area ensuring a promising Dubai visit and memorable footprint left for the next generation in the UAE. We could not do this without our partner HADID. Stay tuned for the exciting developments to come!

Dream Team in Action
Women in STEM Analyst for Dreams Soar, Naia Butler-Craig, is also a Pathways Intern at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Not only is Naia aspiring to be a mission control astronaut, she’s working alongside some of the most brilliant minds in today’s space and science technology research programs. She is actively making her dreams soar through hard work, dedication, breaking barriers, pushing the envelope, and securing a bright future as an influential woman of STEM.
Jill Meyers in Priority Girl Magazine
On behalf of the entire Dreams Soar team and staff, we would like to congratulate our team member, Women in STEM/Outreach Coordinator, Jill Meyers, on being featured in Priority Girl Magazine. As advisor and former president of the San Diego Chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI), Jill strives to create a culture of encouraging young girls to pursue their aspirations in the aviation and aerospace fields. Jill was interviewed about WAI San Diego’s Girls in Aviation Day, held in September of 2016, in which girls from ages 8-16 had the opportunity to meet the Blue Angels, meet the first female Blue Angels pilot and see the F/A-18 Hornet jets up close.

Congratulations, Jill on your accomplishments!

Daily Dose of STEM
The University of Arizona has taken new lengths to train visually impaired youth for STEM careers. Project POEM (Project-Based Learning Opportunities and Exploration of Mentorship for Students With Visual Impairments in STEM)  aims at advancing the awareness and persistence toward STEM related careers for middle and high school students. This program will use University of Arizona’s Mars HiRISE camera to create educational experiences and tactile tools about Mars to encourage and give insight in scientific exploration and study.
