The first certified civilian female pilot from Afghanistan will make an attempt to fly around the world to promote aviation education for women.
Shaesta Waiz started her solo journey from Daytona Beach International Airport in a single-engine plane Saturday.
Her more than 25,000 mile journey is set to take her to five continents and 18 countries in about 90 days.
Waiz is hoping to be the youngest woman to fly around the world and the first Afghan woman to do so solo.
Waiz is using the trip to inspire women to believe in their dreams and promote careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
